I had a great experience at Best fish and chips, the quality of the food was perfect and very fresh. All the staff were very generous, I am definitely coming here again!
‘Best fish & chips’? NOT!! I ordered medium haddock & chips, & side order of mushy peas. It came in a nice takeout box, bagged with plastic knife fork & serviette. All good so far. Went to sea a front bench to eat, & on opening the box noticed how shrivelled the chips were (scrappy looking l) & on taste, full of fat. I’m not sure if they’re twice fried!?? Anyway, too much fat & little potato. Fish batter & fillet shape looked very suspect - like frozen ones??. One bite & I KNEW this fish had been frozen a long time!! Flesh was hard/chewy & not very white, & batter had a very unusual constant thickness all round the fish & VERY MUCH like what you’d buy frozen in a supermarket. I was convinced that it was a supermarket haddock. Very chewy indeed! Peas were very dry & like a pea puree rather than mushy peas!! I’m from Grimsby (fish town) & know what good fish & chips is & this most definitely was one of the worst I’d had. £16 too….horrendous!! When i passed the shop later, queues had gone, so decided to tell the guy who served me, nice & quietly. He argued the fish wasn’t frozen, but when I said I was from Grimsby & that you can’t tell me, he took it all on the chin! No offer of partial refund or apology! The only apology came from me for HAVING to tell him how bad it was. Frightfully English of me!!
The service was exceptional, they were really friendly and kind - they saw our dog was thirsty and panting, we had water but not a bowl and they gave us one without asking them. The food was ready quickly and it was so so good. I don't usually go for fish and chips because I tend to get disappointed, but this was so light, crispy, tasty and fresh we will keep it pinned on Google maps forever.
Cooked to order haddock, tasted fresh and delicious. Really good fish and chips but my personal preference is the flaky, more aerated style of batter. If your preference is this style of batter, then a 5/5.
Nice and generous staff/owner Decent size cod Crispy fries and crispy batter Owner/staff ensure me that everything here is halal. (This is because some fish and chip places may use beer in their batter mix for crispy texture)
The name says it all!! These guys are up there with one of THE BEST fish and chips we’ve ever had!! (Trust me we’re foodies) The batter is perfect, not too heavy, light and crispy. Cooked to absolute perfection! They also do a battered Mars bar which my husband was so happy to finally be able to try!! He’s been talking about it since the day I met him!! Not to mention the tartar sauce you get with your order, such a nice touch! The people that work in there are so lovely too! Do not change anything because we’ll be coming down every time we visit from now on!!
The Best Fish & Chips, the name really lives upto its name, staff were very kind, food was delicious and that curry sauce was probably the best I’ve had, it was absolutely delicious. Also almost everything is halal except for their pies. However, one mistake they made was I ordered a large haddock but they gave me a large cod, I can forgive that.
Freshly cooked to order, great fish, great service, clean environment, friendly staff, clean toilets. Recently refurbished to a high standard. Highly recommended. Have been back March 2020 and the high standard has remained, freshly cooked meaty fish, crisp roughly cut chips and clean surroundings, will go in again when in Broadstairs. Been back since the easing of lockdown on the 27/05/2021, pleased to say the food was exceptional, still the same high standard, the prices have increased slightly as you would expect and they are now doing deliveries. Look forward to going back again😀
